Design is How We Bridge Reality with Human Expectations
“Design is how we bridge reality with human expectations”
- it came to me as I was about to deliver a talk about our team. I expected the podium to stop the microphone from rolling down. It didn’t. BANG.
I picked up “The Design of Everyday Things” last week. It’s a fabulous read from the perspective of an engineer.
Design has to deal with situations that may not be ideal, logical or rational… yet human. Case in point, the anxious Ani trying to unplug the HDMI while figuring out how to transition to the next speaker.
Perhaps when a user shuts their laptop lid while a batch job was running. Or a network connection fumbles and the user is left confused.
The persona of a confused me helps with defensive design quite a bit 😂
